History of Android Operating System

What is Android? Everyone knows it is an operating system and an open source with proprietary components. As Android is developed by Google so it is fully equipped with basic Google features like Gmail, Google Calendar, Maps, Docs, etc. Its applications are used by every age group of people, professionals, housewives, companies and the list goes on.

Androids logo was designed by Irina Blok, a Graphic Designer from California. Her inspiration for the logo came from a very common place, i.e. the bathroom doors – the universally used outline of men and women. She has designed the logo in a robotic form and with very simple shapes and so it is considered as a very playful logo, as it can be customized by its users. The green color of the Robotic Android logo indicates growth, freshness, novelty and prosperity. Androids logo specialty is the custom typeface Fonts called Norad.

Androids 1st version 1.0 was released on 23rd September 2008 and its latest version 4.4 Kitkat is released on 31st October 2013. Android 1st version was released on HTC Dream (G1) device. The most interesting and catchy thing about android versions are their names, they are all on names of a sweet dish namely, 1.0 – Apple pie, 1.1 – Banana Bread, 1.5 – Cupcake, 1.6 – Donut, 2.0 – Eclair, 2.2 – Froyo, 2.3 Gingerbread, 3.0 – Honeycomb, 4.0 – Ice cream sandwich, 4.1 – Jelly Bean and 4.4 – Kitkat.
